Why do people consider it necessary to use alcohol just to feel comfortable in society?
I wonder sometimes if alcohol is used more as a medication to 'feel' comfortable than the social nicety it is usually portrayed as being. When I here someone say 'I drink to be sociable and not for the effect', I can't but help think how ridiculous that sounds. Offer that same person a glass of cola instead of their usual double G & T and watch their face drop. If it is purly the act of drinking that is sociable, then a glass of cola or some other soft drink should do the trick very nicely. Like wise, take the alcohol out of the Gin and watch them swap to another alcoholic drink instantly. Clearly, it is the 'mind altering' affects ot the alcohol content in drinks that is 'sociable', and not the drink itself. |
