The never ending debate on Cannabis.
I remember someone telling me once that Cannabis was definately not addictive.

He went on to say 'I should know as i've been smoking it every day for the last 8 years'. I guess that speaks for itself! However, he was trying to convince the wrong person as I have witnessed the effects that cannabis use has had on some people. I have also spoken to a lot of Heroin Addicts over the years, and the vast majority of them started their drug use with Cannabis - possibly convinced by someone (like the 8 year man) that Cannabis was a safe drug man!

'tried for the past 20 years to stop'
Hi Adam,

You say that you have been trying for the past 20 years to stop using cannabis. In what ways have you tried, and have you ever sought help from your GP or other addiction treatment organisations?

RE: Is cannabis addictive?
Swapping one drug for another, or increasing the use of one drug when the 'drug of choice' is unavailable, at the very least suggests that a person is not comfortable without the psychoactive changes caused by drug use. So the question here is, as always, why the need to artifficially change the way we feel? Cannabis may not be physically additive, but there is little doubt that, for many, it provides a psychological crutch - take it away - and another crutch will be sought.

Is cannabis addictive?
My partner has smoked cannibis almost every day, for about 14 years. I think its addictive to him because of the habitual element of it. When we have been abroad to greece, he couldnt score for the full week, and he had no withdrawal symptoms apart from moaning, yet he did drink quite a lot more than usual. I beleive with some cognitive behaviour therapy he could stop relatively easily if he really wanted to. I think the motivation is the problem here.
