If people do things for the wrong reasons, it can easily mean that they end up with results that are disappointing. This can be the case when it comes to entering a drug rehab centre. All this type of facility can do is to provide individuals with the resources they need to create a better life. If they have the wrong attitude, it can mean that they fail to make the most of the experience. Even the best rehab on the planet will be of little value to those who are there for the wrong reason.

What are the Wrong Reasons for Choosing a Drug Rehab Centre?

There are a number of reasons why people may choose to enter rehab that would be considered less than ideal. Some will do something very bad because of their addiction problems, so they will be under a great deal of pressure to quit the behaviour. This person may then agree to go to rehab but their only real motive is to escape the consequences of their bad behaviour. They are not serious about ending the addiction and they just want to get people off their back.

Another wrong reason for choosing a drug rehab centre is that the person believes it will allow them to drink or use drugs safely in the future. This person is convinced that if they can just get a certain amount of sober time under their belt (maybe a year), they will then be safe to return to the behaviour. This means that the person is not really committed to recovery, meaning that they will not be able to get the most out of the process. Their lack of commitment also means that they will be very likely to give up once the going gets tough.

Some people will enter a drug rehab centre with the belief that it if they make this sacrifice they will get something specific back in return. For example, the person may believe that if they become sober, they will be able to get back their wife or partner. The problem with this motivation is that it usually not enough to keep people sober. It is too dependent on the actions of other people and on specific events happening – it is almost doomed to failure.

The Right Reason for Choosing a Drug Rehab Centre

The right reason for choosing rehab is that the person has had enough of alcohol or drug abuse and they want to live a different kind of life. It means that they are fully committed to change and will be willing to do whatever it takes to make it a reality. The right reason for drug rehab is more than just wanting to escape pain and suffering – it is about finding a way of life that will make you feel fulfilled and happy. You will not have unrealistic expectations of the future – you expect there to be difficulties. You will understand that there is going to be plenty of hardships in the future, but overcoming these will be worth it because of the available rewards.

It is often suggested that people develop the right motivation for choosing rehab after they have hit rock bottom. There is a great deal of truth in this statement, but there can be a great deal of confusion about what rock bottom means. Some people will mistakenly assume that this means losing everything, but this is incorrect. All that rock bottom really means is that you have reached a point where you have had enough and feel ready to change. You decide when you have reached this point, but the best time to make this decision is today.
