Getting help for Addiction & Substance Abuse in Epping
Breaking free from drug or alcohol addiction involves eliminating physical and psychological dependence and addressing the harmful behavioural issues that initially lead to addiction. Attempting to abruptly stop drug use without help from a professional can be extremely challenging and dangerous where an underlying physical dependence has developed. Alcoholism and other kinds of drug addiction affect physical and mental health. Often the behavioural aspects of substance dependence are most apparent and worrying to friends and family.
For the rehab process to be successful, significant behavioural changes are needed whilst in treatment. The recovery success rates depend entirely on the individual’s willingness for change and commitment to those changes long-term. All good rehab facilities in Epping should offer person-centred treatment which includes a comprehensive screening process. The treatment plan should be tailored to the needs of each individual, with regular monitoring and progress reports throughout the programme.

How Does Rehab Work
Treatment is provided on a one-to-one and group basis. Individuals should all receive a treatment and recovery programme customised to fully address their specific needs. A psychiatric evaluation should also be carried out by certified psychiatrists. A rehab programme should be carried out by a team of addiction and mental health specialists, as well as spiritual counsellors, wellness specialists and medical staff.
In the UK, inpatient residential rehab and outpatient programmes are the two distinct options for rehab. The NHS rarely provides funding for Inpatient residential rehab, but outpatient programmes are available across the whole of Epping on a self-referral basis. Inpatient residential rehab provides many advantages over outpatient programmes. They allow the individual to safely detox from alcohol and substances in an enclosed environment, without any temptations.
What Happens During Alcohol and Drug Rehab in Epping
Rehab gives individuals the tools they need to live meaningful lives without the need for alcohol or any other substances. Qualified professionals work to promote an environment that is caring, supportive, and compassionate, so that individuals can start the healing process and facilitate long-term recovery. However, residential programs vary and those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction may not understand what a good residential treatment program looks like. It is important that before choosing a residential programme, you understand what it entails in terms of treatment and aftercare options. A good rehab programme should be made up of group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. Medical staff should be available any time of day or night to help individuals through the detox phase, and address any concerns they may have regarding psychotherapy and detox medication.
Residential programmes should give free aftercare as part of all good programmes, and should agree to regular sessions to aid long-term recovery. It is a requirement for all rehab facilities in the UK to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC provide a rating of each individual rehab ranging from “Inadequate” to “Outstanding”. To investigate how a rehab is performing, a great starting point is the CQC website, as they provide copies of inspection reports highlighting issues and areas of excellence.
Addiction Therapy & Treatment Options in Epping
When making enquiries at treatment centres, ask about the different therapy programmes they provide. A respectable rehab should have a variety of therapeutic models to help treat psychological issues associated with addiction. If existing mental health conditions are present, it would be worth asking the centre if they specialise in treating patients with dual-diagnosis. Dual-diagnosis is where the patient has both mental health conditions and addictions, which often require a specialised treatment plan.
A good rehab centre therefore, should be licensed to treat both addiction and mental health disorders – with the expertise to treat substance disorders without hindering on the state of any existing mental health problems (such as bipolar or depression). Several considerations should be made for the individuals well-being where dual diagnosis is involved – such as any therapy undergone prior to rehabilitation and the use of currently prescribed psychiatric medication. The first phase of rehab is detox. Detox eliminates the substances that affect the individual’s mind, preparing them for psychological treatment.
Medical Alcohol and Drug Detox
Detox is a treatment intended to break not only the physical addiction but also the psychological addiction that commonly occurs after drug and alcohol misuse. A medical detox can be defined as medically-assisted, as often detox medication is provided to alleviate many of the dangerous symptoms associated with withdrawal. Detox medication is not always needed, and is usually confined to individuals who are dependent on opiates, benzodiazepines, alcohol, and barbiturates.
Medical professionals will assess whether the individual requires a medically-assisted detox, with additional considerations involving the individuals needs and any existing mental health conditions. It is recommended that the detox phase takes place within a residential setting, so that withdrawal symptoms and health complications can be monitored by medical professionals.

Therapy for Alcohol and Drug Addiction
Once the individual completes their detox, they will move on to the rehabilitation phase. Clinicians should utilise a wide variety of therapeutic models to allow for personalised treatment. One-to-one sessions usually use psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), amongst others. Talking therapies form most Group sessions, but may include other forms of psychotherapy such as Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, and Meditation. The aim is to create the optimal environment that allows the individual to explore new ways of thinking, bond with peers and seek healthy, rewarding stimuli without the need for drugs or alcohol.
Cost of Alcohol and Drug Rehab
A substantial portion of the overall cost of rehab is from Detox, as well as the length of stay and services provided. Other considerations include location and amenities. Most inpatient rehab centres charge in the region of £5000 – £10000 for a 30-day treatment. Cost should not be a barrier to seeking addiction treatment, as often the longer-term cost of maintaining an addiction is far greater.
Consider the amount of money you spend to maintain your drug habit and the health ramifications caused by substance abuse. Some rehabs accept private insurance, but you should check with your insurance provider first as to whether they cover addiction treatment.
How Long is Rehab?
The length of stay can change depending on the circumstances of the individual, although inpatient programmes typically range from 14 days up to 90 days. Extended rehab programmes have been shown to , so it may be that longer rehab programmes are a better choice.
Some inpatient rehabs have options that are “detox only” – but uk-rehab does not endorse this – as detox alone rarely addresses the underlying causes of addictions. For optimal recovery consider a 60-90 day programme. This will give you plenty of time to acclimatize to a substance free life, and allows the therapy to have a long-lasting impact on emotional and spiritual well-being.
